Hero of the Year

Telemachus for Hero of the Year

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Many gods, goddesses, and other people are candiates for the Hero of the Year. But this year it will be very close. Everyone has a good chance of winning, but we won't officially know until the election. The people must choose from all the people and we believe anyone would make a great hero, but we will not know until the voting.

Although many people may think Odysseus, the strong and mighty god may be a great "hero of the year", he does get attacked by Posidon many times. He is a fighter and a family man and is a strong and courageous warrior.

We prefer his son, Telemachus for many reasons. He has gone through many adventures to Pylos and Sparta in search for his father. So in many ways he is a hero. He has done many things to deserve this award including the many adventures he encountered for the good.

I think Telemachus is a great candidate because of the acheivements he has made and all the contravercity he has gone through to do good. Although he may have been not very good to some of the other gods, many people think of him as a heroic figure.

Telemachus, for all of the years he has lived, has always been an influence to someone or another. He has gone through the suitors living in his house to the sailing adventures to Sparta and Pylos. The many things he does makes him a better canidate for the hero of the year.

The gods are proudly standing behind Telemachus for hero of the year.

Outside Reading #1

The Au Pairs. By Melissa de la Cruz

This book is about the life of three different teenagers working in the Hamptons for the summer. They are au pairing for a family that has five crazy children they have to look over day and night, making them food, cleaning up after them, taking them where they have to go, and anything else they need. The teens thought it was going to be an easy summer job, living on the beach and all. But it's not what they thought it would be after two of the girls leave the work for the last one. While she stays home and watches the kids, the other two go out clubbing at night and living the party scene. All of the partying adds up when they come home at 5 in the morning and have to wake up a few hours later to take care of all the children. The days become a daily ritual, so they become used to the no sleep, partying, and babys to watch over.

Siddhartha Blog Assignment #2

Texting for Advice:

Govinda: Siddhartha is leaving me!
Phlippe: Oh I am sorry to hear that.
Govinda: What should I do?
Phlippe: Try to move on.
Govinda: How! He says I have chosen my own path and I must find salvation. (Hesse 30)
Phlippe: Maybe you are meant to go your separate ways.
Govinda: Well, we both listened to the teachings of the Illustrious One. We accepted them. We are both supposed to follow the path of salvation. (Hesse 29)
Phlippe: Everyone moves on. Maybe Sid has moved on.
Govinda: Yes, you may be right, but he is my best friend!
Phlippe: Yes, well G2G. TTYL! LYL!

PART 2:

I think Govinda is being a little to clingy because he can't get over Siddhartha. He is supposed to be "finding himself" and personally I don't think he can if he has Govinda by his side the whole time. I think he should go on this journey by himself. It will help him so much more if he is not having anyone put in ideas for his conquest, if he is by himself. Govinda should find himself as Siddhartha is doing, it will help him, rather than dwelling on the loss of a friendship.
